What’s What?
The sole purpose of this article is to remind you to pay your tickets issued in DC before December 31st, 2021, or they’ll double. This is the last chance to pay just the original amount of the eligible ticket issued by law enforcement. The DMV ticket amnesty program was designed to give DC and non-DC residents a chance to pay their outstanding tickets, without penalties.
What Are The Benefits?
The program immediately benefits those who are having trouble obtaining a license because of outstanding tickets.
The program doesn’t seem to affect the normal usual ticket adjudication time limits. Parking and photo tickets can no longer be adjudicated after 120 days of issuance. Minor moving violations can no longer be adjudicated after 60 days of issuance.
Which Tickets Are Eligible?
The ticket(s) must have been issued before December 31, 2021. Just pay the eligible ticket online, in person or by mail during the amnesty period.
Parking, photo enforcement (including speed, red-light and stop-sign cameras) and minor moving violations issued by law enforcement.
Are There Any Drawbacks?
I think the only potential drawback is that if you’re already on a payment plan, it may be affected. The site states that: “Penalties will be waived only for unpaid/open tickets. If the plan is not satisfied when the amnesty period ends, penalties are added back,” so it seems like if your pre-determined payment plan runs longer than 12/31/21 then you will have to pay penalties after the amnesty program ends.

I got 2 tickets over the summer and paid it before it doubled because I couldn’t fight it this time. Had I known about this program at the time, I would have waited until 12/31/21 just because. However, I am glad that it has been out the way.
I admit this was a nice initiative. I do wish that it could be extended once again since the pandemic continues to be unpredictable.
